Claudia Rerrie, Assistant Principal
With more than a decade of service in New York City public schools, Claudia Rerrie is a seasoned educator and instructional leader whose career reflects a deep commitment to equity, excellence, and community. She began her journey as a classroom teacher, building a strong foundation in pedagogy, student engagement, and family partnership. Her effectiveness in the classroom and her natural leadership abilities led her to transition into multiple roles, including Dean, Union Leader, and Mathematics Coach, where she supported K–5 teachers in strengthening instructional practice and improving student outcomes.
At The Ryer Avenue Elementary School in the Bronx, Claudia Rerrie served as a Mathematics Coach and later as Dean of Academics, overseeing curriculum implementation, assessment systems, and schoolwide instructional quality. Her leadership continued through multiple tenures at Ryer Avenue, where she became a trusted voice in instructional decision‑making and staff development.
In 2017, she joined the Universal Literacy Initiative as a Reading Coach with the Early Literacy Field Team, supporting school 10X054 in the Bronx. In this role, she coached teachers in evidence‑based literacy practices and contributed to citywide efforts to strengthen foundational reading instruction.
Her leadership expanded further at East Elmhurst Community School in Queens, where she became Assistant Principal in 2018. During the onset of the COVID‑19 pandemic, she stepped into the role of Acting Principal, guiding the school community through an unprecedented period with steadiness, empathy, and strategic clarity. She continues to serve as Assistant Principal, leading instructional teams, supporting school operations, and fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Claudia Rerrie is the proud mother of four children and grandmother of five, a role that fuels her belief in nurturing the whole child and building schools where every student feels seen, supported, and capable of success.
