Ms. Lau
My name is Carisa Lau and I am a Queens native with a desire to serve my community through educating the young minds of our future world-changers. I have been an educator since 2021 teaching across 5 grades as a special educator and science cluster teacher. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Education at Binghamton University - SUNY, and my Master's degree from Relay GSE in both General Education and Students with Disabilities - Grade 1-6. When I am not teaching, you can find me trying new restaurants, traveling, going to concerts, baking, and playing instruments!
My journey as a teacher began with the profound impact of one of my own teachers who had recognized the potential in me that I had not seen in myself. Her belief in me made me feel valued and motivated to forge my own path, distinct from my family's. This experience inspired the foundation of my teaching philosophy: to support and encourage my students, creating an environment where they feel valued, capable, and motivated to do their best. Every student has the potential to do great things. Just as my teacher believed in me, I aim to recognize and nurture each student’s talents and create a space where students feel comfortable being themselves and taking risks. It is my goal to provide an environment where they can grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. Education is about developing the whole person. I am dedicated to supporting my students' emotional, social, and intellectual growth by building strong, positive relationships that make them feel understood and supported. My goal is to empower students to become confident, independent thinkers, ready and open to face future challenges.
